32 Service Battalion

32 Service Battalion was formed through the consolidation of Toronto-area logistics and support units that date back to the early 1900s, when the Canadian Militia first created specialized organizations responsible for transport, supply, maintenance, and medical services. Over the decades, these elements supported local regiments, domestic operations, and national mobilizations, steadily becoming more structured as Canada modernized its logistics system.

A major reorganization of the Canadian Army Reserve in 1965 brought these functions together as part of the newly established Service Battalion system. This restructuring grouped transportation companies, ordnance and supply units, maintenance sections, and food services under one cohesive formation. In Toronto, these elements eventually evolved into what became 32 Service Battalion, responsible for providing integrated combat service support to all units within 32 Canadian Brigade Group.

Throughout its history, the battalion has supported a wide range of missions. Its members have contributed to domestic operations, disaster response, and major national events, while also deploying overseas on UN and NATO missions, including Bosnia, Afghanistan, and other international theatres. The battalion’s soldiers and technicians sustain the field force by ensuring equipment is maintained, troops are transported and supplied, and operational needs are met under all conditions.

Today, 32 Service Battalion continues to serve as the logistical backbone of 32 Canadian Brigade Group, bringing together specialists in transportation, supply, vehicle and weapons maintenance, and food services. The unit’s history reflects the evolution of Canadian Army logistics and its essential role in supporting military operations at home and abroad.
